How to Use Worm Castings
Worm castings are versatile and can be used in many different ways to improve your soil and boost plant health. Follow these simple steps for best results:
Mix with Soil Medium
In a separate container, combine 20% worm castings with 80% of a soil medium like coco coir, peat moss, potting soil, or compost. Mix thoroughly to distribute evenly.
Use When Planting
Use your soil blend when potting indoor and outdoor plants, preparing garden beds, re-potting established plants, or filling transplant holes.
Apply as Top Dressing
For established plants, apply a thin layer (1/4 to 1/2 inch) of worm castings around the base of plants, being careful not to touch the stems.
Make Worm Tea
Create a nutrient-rich worm tea by steeping 1 cup of castings in 1 gallon of dechlorinated water for 24 hours. Use as a gentle liquid fertilizer.
Important Usage Notes:
- Apply worm castings every 4-6 weeks as directed
- Store in a cool, dark place to preserve microbial activity
- Safe for all indoor and outdoor plants including vegetables, flowers, and houseplants
- Can be used year-round, but especially beneficial in spring and fall

Pro Tips & FAQ
Enhanced Seed Starting
Add 10% worm castings to your seed starting mix to improve germination rates and give seedlings a strong start. The beneficial microbes help prevent damping off disease.
Compost Activator
Add a handful of worm castings to your compost pile to introduce beneficial microbes that speed up decomposition and create a more nutrient-rich finished compost.
Can I use too much?
Unlike chemical fertilizers, worm castings won't burn plants even when used in higher quantities. However, for best results and economy, we recommend the 20% ratio with soil.
How long do they last?
The nutrients in worm castings are released slowly over time, providing benefits for 4-6 weeks. For best results, reapply every 4-6 weeks during the growing season.
What makes them better than synthetic fertilizers?
Worm castings provide a complete array of nutrients in bioavailable forms, improve soil structure, and add beneficial microorganisms - all things synthetic fertilizers can't offer.
Lawn Application
For a healthier lawn, spread worm castings thinly over the surface (about 1/4 inch) and water deeply. This helps build soil health and provide slow-release nutrients.
